This is not the first time I've painted a smoke phase turkey and I’m fairly certain that it won’t be the last. The fact that these birds are mostly light gray in color, almost white, is interesting and I've recently learned that there are also red phase and black phase turkeys. I've never seen a red or black phase but I have seen a smoke phase, right in my own front yard. Nature never ceases to surprise.
Here is a wild turkey flying low above the grasses, escaping some threat perhaps. Behind her is a small scene with three wild turkeys on the edge of a stream, two reflected in the water. It was pointed out to me that this painting is a bit of a departure from my usual approach. It seems that I typically feature some houses or other small buildings somewhere in the composition. Not so this time. I’ll have to think about that.
I have reopened my Etsy shop with some changes. I won’t be offering prints for the time being but instead will list some of the original paintings that I have available. I will add more as I produce them.
